Abstract This paper discusses the American debate over price controls and economic stabilization after World War II, when the transition from a war economy to a peace economy was characterized by bottlenecks in the productive system and shortages of food and other basic consumer goods, directly affecting the living standard of the population, the public opinion, and political discourse. This chapter discusses the emerging concerns for the national languages, in particular Finnish. English, previously seen in relatively positive terms in the Finnish society, begins to be construed as a threat to Finnish higher education and research, and to Finnish language at large. Este estudio da cuenta de las razones de los ciudadanos de África subsahariana francófona para establecerse en Europa y particularmente en Francia mediante la creación de un marco comprensivo innovador que vincula tres ejes temáticos: la motivación, las migraciones y África y sus relaciones con Europa. 155 participantes en ambos continentes respondieron a un cuestionario sobre su proyecto migratorio real o posible. Composed in spring of 46 BC, Cicero's Brutus emphasizes oratorical silence, in stark contrast with the prominence of the speech act found in the Pro Marcello and first Philippic. Yet in the face of those difficult times and amidst the silence that such times engender, Cicero ironically finds his voice. This paper will demonstrate Cicero's acute awareness, in his final days, of the need to employ his rediscovered voice in light of eloquence's changed role in Rome's new political climate.
For Whom is MAI? A Theoretical Perspective on Multilateral Agreements on Investments

Why do we observe some LDCs objecting the prospect of a Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI), although they have been keen to liberalize investment in preferential agreements in recent years? In this paper, we analyse the issue of MAI implementation and assess the welfare consequences of such kind of agreements. In our model, participation to MAI involves a trade-off between less rent extraction from multinational firms (MNEs) and more abundant FDI inflows. At equilibrium, either all countries enter MAI, or all countries stay out, or only some of them enter. Coordination problems may induce multiple equilibria: the three typesof equilibria may coexist.
